Analytical Ability

"Civil Service Analytical? Dito masusubok ang logic at critical thinking mo, beshy! Hindi lang to hula-hula, may science yan! Tara, i-level up natin ang analytical skills mo!"

1. Number Series: Hanapin ang Pattern! 🔢

Beshy, ang number series parang relationship - may pattern na sinusunod! Kailangan mo lang mahanap kung ano ang "ugali" ng numbers.

Common Patterns na Lalabas sa Exam:

Pattern 1: Arithmetic (Constant Difference)

2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17

Difference: +3 sa bawat number

Pattern 2: Geometric (Multiply/Divide)

2, 6, 18, 54, 162

Pattern: x3 sa bawat number

Pattern 3: Fibonacci-style (Add Previous Two)

1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21

Pattern: 5+8=13, 8+13=21

Pattern 4: Square Numbers

1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36

Pattern: 1 squared, 2 squared, 3 squared, 4 squared, 5 squared

Pattern 5: Alternating Operations

2, 4, 3, 6, 5, 10, 9

Pattern: x2, -1, x2, -1...

Beshy Tip:

Kung hindi mo makuha agad ang pattern, kunin mo ang DIFFERENCE between consecutive numbers. Kung same difference, arithmetic yan. Kung ang difference may pattern din, deeper analysis needed!

2. Verbal Analogies: Word Relationships 🔗

Ito ang classic na "A is to B as C is to ___". Parang matching-matching lang, beshy! Kailangan mo lang ma-identify ang relationship.

Types of Relationships:

Synonyms (Same Meaning)

Happy : Joyful :: Sad : Melancholy

Antonyms (Opposite)

Hot : Cold :: Light : Dark

Part to Whole

Wheel : Car :: Petal : Flower

Tool to Function

Pen : Write :: Knife : Cut

Category/Type

Dog : Mammal :: Eagle : Bird

Degree/Intensity

Warm : Hot :: Cool : Cold

Worker to Workplace

Teacher : School :: Doctor : Hospital

Product to Source

Milk : Cow :: Egg : Chicken

3. Data Interpretation: Facts, Not Feelings! 📊

Beshy, dito kailangan sharp ang mata mo! Basahin ang graph, tables, at charts. Wag mag-assume - kung ano lang ang nakita, yun lang ang i-analyze.

Types of Charts/Graphs:

Bar Graph

Para sa comparison ng different categories

Example: Sales per month, Population per city

Line Graph

Para sa trends over time

Example: Temperature changes, Stock prices

Pie Chart

Para sa parts of a whole (100%)

Example: Budget allocation, Market share

Table

Para sa organized data with rows and columns

Example: Student grades, Employee records

Data Interpretation Tips:

  • Always read the title and labels first
  • Check the units (thousands, millions, percent)
  • Look at the scale - baka nag-start sa 50 hindi sa 0!
  • Answer ONLY what is asked - wag mag-dagdag ng interpretation

4. Abstract Reasoning: Shape Patterns 🔷🔶

Ang mga tanong dito parang love life, complicated! Pero may logic yan sa likod ng bawat galaw ng shapes, beshy.

Common Shape Transformations:

Rotation

Clockwise (90, 180, 270 degrees) or Counter-clockwise

Tip: Markahan mo mentally ang isang corner

Reflection/Mirror

Horizontal or Vertical flip

Tip: Imagine na may salamin sa gitna

Size Change

Getting bigger or smaller

Tip: Count the relative sizes

Color/Shading

Alternating between filled/empty/shaded

Tip: Track the pattern per shape

Addition/Subtraction

Elements being added or removed

Tip: Count elements per frame

Movement/Position

Elements moving in a direction

Tip: Track where each element goes

5. Logical Reasoning: Valid Arguments 🧠

Dito natin aalamin kung ang conclusion ay tama base sa given statements. Critical thinking to the max!

Types of Logical Statements:

Syllogism (Deductive)

All A are B. All B are C. Therefore, All A are C.

Example: All dogs are mammals. All mammals are animals. Therefore, all dogs are animals. (VALID)

Invalid Conclusion

Some A are B. Some B are C. Therefore, Some A are C.

Hindi necessarily true! "Some" does not guarantee connection.

Conditional Statements

If P, then Q. P is true. Therefore, Q is true.

Example: If it rains, the ground is wet. It rained. Therefore, the ground is wet. (VALID)

Common Logical Fallacies (Mali!):

  • Affirming the Consequent: If P then Q. Q is true. Therefore P is true. (MALI!)
  • Denying the Antecedent: If P then Q. P is false. Therefore Q is false. (MALI!)
  • Hasty Generalization: One example = all cases (MALI!)

6. Problem Solving Strategies 🎯

Beshy's Winning Strategy:

1

Read the question TWICE

Minsan ang answer nasa question na mismo!

2

Eliminate obviously wrong answers

Usually 1-2 choices ang sobrang layo - tanggalin mo agad!

3

Work backwards if stuck

I-substitute mo ang choices sa problem

4

Time management

Skip muna ang mahirap, balikan later!
