1. Traffic Signs & Colors 🛑

Traffic signs ay ang legal instructions sa kalsada. Tatlong pangunahing uri based sa color at shape.

🔴 Red (Octagon/Circle)

Regulatory/Prohibitive

Bawal! Command mo sundin at once. Penalties kung di obey.

Examples: STOP, No Entry, No Parking, No Overtaking

⚠️ Yellow (Triangle)

Warning/Caution

Mag-ingat! Alert ka ahead ng danger ahead.

Examples: Slippery Road, Curve Ahead, Pedestrian Crossing, School Area

🟦 Blue/Green (Rectangle)

Informative/Guidance

Guide lang, hindi prohibition. Useful info lang.

Examples: Exit, Hospital, Hotel, Parking, Direction Signs

2. Pavement Markings 🛣️

Ang road markings (painted lines) ay instructions din! Dapat alam mo meaning ng bawat linya.

Solid White Line Lane divider, you can cross cautiously Stay sa lane mo, overtaking risky
Broken White Line You CAN cross if safe Pwede overtake kung clear
Double Yellow Line ABSOLUTELY NO CROSSING from either side BAWAL mag-overtake! Violation!
Single Solid Yellow (Your Side) + Broken (Other Side) You cannot cross, opposite can Stay sa lane mo, no overtaking
Solid Yellow Center Parking restricted along this side No parking sa side na may solid yellow

3. Road Markings on Pavement 🛣️

Common Pavement Markings

🟨 Solid Yellow Line (Along Curb): Parking prohibited during certain times (bawal mag-park)

🟥 Solid Red Line (Along Curb): No parking anytime (strictly bawal)

⬜ White Perpendicular Lines: Parking space markers (can park between these)

△ Triangle Markings: Keep clear areas (bawal mag-park dito)

Zebra/Pedestrian Crossing: White striped area - drivers must yield to pedestrians

4. Right-of-Way Rules ⚖️

Two vehicles at intersection (no traffic light) Vehicle on the RIGHT has priority
Pedestrian crossing at crosswalk PEDESTRIAN always has priority! Yield!
Merging from smaller road to main road Main road traffic has right-of-way, merging vehicle must yield
U-turn situation You must yield to all other vehicles while making U-turn
Turning from main road (left vs oncoming straight) Turning vehicle must yield to oncoming straight traffic

5. Speed Limits & Regulations 🚗

Philippine Speed Limits

  • Residential Areas / Schools: 20 km/h maximum
  • Business Districts: 40 km/h maximum
  • Regular City Streets: 60 km/h maximum
  • Highways (Non-expressway): 80 km/h maximum
  • Expressways (NLEX, SLEX, etc.): 100 km/h maximum
  • NOTE: Adjust speed based on road conditions, weather, visibility

6. Overtaking Rules 🔄

✅ You CAN Overtake When:

  • Road is clear ahead
  • Broken white line sa lane mo
  • Oncoming traffic sufficient distance
  • Not near pedestrian crossing
  • Not in intersection
  • Vehicle ahead is slow

❌ BAWAL Overtake When:

  • Double yellow line
  • Solid white line sa lane mo
  • Oncoming vehicle too close
  • Pedestrian crossing visible
  • At intersection or curve
  • Hill/elevated area (limited view)
  • Speed below overtaking speed

Common Exam Questions

Q1: What does a double yellow line mean?

A: Absolutely no overtaking or crossing from either direction. Violation mo yan.

Q2: At intersection with no traffic light, two vehicles approach - who has right-of-way?

A: The vehicle on the RIGHT side has priority. You must yield kung you're on the left.

Q3: What is the speed limit in residential areas?

A: 20 km/h maximum. Safety of residents first!

Q4: What does a yellow triangular sign mean?

A: WARNING sign. Mag-ingat ng hazard ahead like slippery road, curve, pedestrian crossing.

Q5: When can you overtake safely?

A: Only when road is clear, you have broken white line, oncoming traffic is far away, and not near pedestrian crossing or intersection.

Q6: What is solid yellow line on curb mean?

A: Parking restricted during certain times. Red solid yellow = no parking anytime.
