The most important tool in Psych Nursing.

āœ… Do's

  • Broad openings ("Tell me more")
  • Restating/Reflecting
  • Silence (Therapeutic)
  • Presenting reality (for hallucinations)

āŒ Don'ts

  • Advice giving ("You should...")
  • False reassurance ("It will be okay")
  • Asking "Why?" (Judgemental)
  • Belittling feelings

2. Anxiety Levels 😰

  • Mild: Alert, increased perception. Good for learning.
  • Moderate: Narrowed perception. Can still follow direction.
  • Severe: Greatly reduced perception. Cannot problem solve.
  • Panic: Loss of control, terror. Safety is priority!

3. Defense Mechanisms šŸ›”ļø

  • Denial: Refusing to acknowledge reality.
  • Projection: Blaming others.
  • Displacement: Transferring anger to a safer target.
  • Rationalization: Making excuses.
  • Regression: Returning to earlier developmental stage.
  • Sublimation: Channeling impulses into acceptable behavior (Healthy).
