Abstract Reasoning

"USTET Abstract Reasoning? It's all about patterns and shapes! Train your eyes to see the logic in the drawings."

1. Figure Series & Pattern Completion 🔄

Identify the rule that governs the sequence of figures to find the missing one.

Common Patterns

  • Rotation: Clockwise or counter-clockwise movement (45°, 90°, 180°).
  • Movement: Elements moving positions (corners, sides, center).
  • Alternation: Colors (black/white), shapes, or orientations flipping back and forth.
  • Quantity: Increasing or decreasing number of lines, dots, or shapes.

2. Figure Grouping (Odd One Out) 🔳

Find the figure that does not belong to the group.

What to Check:

  • Symmetry: Is it the only asymmetric one?
  • Line Type: Curved vs. Straight lines.
  • Enclosure: Closed shapes vs. Open shapes.
  • Intersections: Lines crossing vs. not crossing.

3. Spatial Visualization (Folding & 3D) 🧊

Mentally fold a 2D pattern into a 3D object (like a cube).

Cube Folding Tips

  • Opposite Faces: In a "cross" pattern, faces separated by one square are opposites and can NEVER touch.
  • Adjacent Faces: Faces sharing an edge in 2D will share an edge in 3D.
  • Orientation: Watch the direction of arrows or symbols when folded.
