1. Nouns

A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or animal.

Common vs Proper Nouns

2. Pronouns

A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun.

Using Pronouns

Maria is my friend. → She is my friend.

Juan and Pedro play basketball. → They play basketball.

The dog is cute. → It is cute.

3. Verbs (Action Words)

A verb is a word that shows action or being.

Being Verbs (is, am, are, was, were)

  • I am happy.
  • She is tall.
  • They are students.
  • He was tired yesterday.

4. Adjectives (Describing Words)

An adjective is a word that describes a noun. It tells us what something looks like, feels like, or how many.

Types of Adjectives

Color

red, blue, green, yellow, pink, white, black

Size

big, small, tall, short, long, wide, tiny

Shape

round, square, flat, curved

Feeling

happy, sad, angry, excited, scared

Touch

soft, hard, smooth, rough, sticky

Number

one, two, many, few, some, several

Examples in Sentences

The red apple is delicious.

She has a big bag.

The happy boy is playing.

I have three books.

5. Building Sentences

Parts of a Sentence

Subject (Who/What)+Predicate (Action)

The cat sleeps on the bed.

Maria reads a book.

The children play in the park.

Types of Sentences

Statement (.)

Tells something

The sun is bright.

Question (?)

Asks something

Is the sun bright?

Command (.)

Tells someone to do something

Close the door.

Exclamation (!)

Shows strong feeling

What a beautiful day!

6. Reading Comprehension

Read the Story

My Pet Dog

I have a pet dog named Brownie. He is brown and very fluffy. Brownie likes to run and play in the garden. Every morning, I feed him and give him water. Brownie is my best friend. I love him very much!

Questions About the Story

1. What is the dog's name?

Answer: Brownie

2. What color is Brownie?

Answer: Brown

3. What does Brownie like to do?

Answer: Run and play in the garden

4. Find the adjectives (describing words) in the story.

Answer: brown, fluffy, best
