Number Words (100s)

  • 100 = one hundred
  • 200 = two hundred
  • 300 = three hundred
  • 400 = four hundred
  • 500 = five hundred
  • 600 = six hundred
  • 700 = seven hundred
  • 800 = eight hundred
  • 900 = nine hundred
  • 1000 = one thousand

Example: 347 is read as "three hundred forty-seven"
Filipino: tatlong daan at apatnapu't pito

2. Place Value

Three-Digit Numbers

Every three-digit number has:

548
HundredsTensOnes

548 = 5 hundreds + 4 tens + 8 ones

= 500 + 40 + 8 = 548

Remember: The value of a digit depends on its PLACE in the number.
In 555: the first 5 = 500, middle 5 = 50, last 5 = 5

3. Addition with Regrouping

What is Regrouping?

When the sum of digits in a column is 10 or more, we need to regroup (carry over) to the next column.

Example: 47 + 35 = ?

Step 1: Add Ones

7 + 5 = 12

Write 2, carry 1

Step 2: Add Tens

4 + 3 + 1 = 8

Include carried 1

4. Subtraction with Regrouping

Borrowing in Subtraction

When the top digit is smaller than the bottom digit, we need to borrow from the next column.

Example: 52 - 38 = ?

Step 1: Check Ones

2 - 8 = ?

2 is smaller, need to borrow

Step 2: Borrow

12 - 8 = 4

5 becomes 4

Step 3: Subtract Tens

4 - 3 = 1

= 14
