Plants, Animals, Matter, Weather & Earth Materials

1. Plant Parts & Needs

Parts of a Plant and Their Jobs

PartFilipinoJob/Function
ðŸŒļ FlowerBulaklakMakes seeds and fruits
🍃 LeafDahonMakes food for the plant (photosynthesis)
ðŸŒŋ StemTangkayHolds up the plant, carries water and food
ðŸŒą RootUgatGets water from soil, holds plant in place
🍎 FruitBungaProtects and contains seeds
🌰 SeedButoGrows into a new plant

What Plants Need to Live

☀ïļ

Sunlight

For making food

💧

Water

For growth

ðŸ’Ļ

Air

For breathing

ðŸŠī

Soil

For nutrients

Photosynthesis: Plants use sunlight, water, and air (carbon dioxide) to make their own food! This is called photosynthesis. Leaves do this job.

2. Animal Groups

Vertebrates (With Backbone)

🐕

Mammals

Fur, milk, warm

ðŸĶ

Birds

Feathers, eggs, fly

🐠

Fish

Scales, gills, swim

ðŸĶŽ

Reptiles

Scales, cold, crawl

ðŸļ

Amphibians

Wet skin, water/land

Invertebrates (Without Backbone)

ðŸĶ‹

Butterfly

🐝

Bee

🐛

Caterpillar

🐌

Snail

ðŸĶ‘

Squid

🕷ïļ

Spider

3. States of Matter

Three States of Matter

🧊

Solid

Has definite shape and size

Examples: ice, rock, wood, book

💧

Liquid

Takes shape of container, flows

Examples: water, milk, juice, oil

ðŸ’Ļ

Gas

No shape, fills any space

Examples: air, steam, oxygen

Changing States

🧊

Solid

Heat →

(Melting)

💧

Liquid

Heat →

(Evaporation)

ðŸ’Ļ

Gas

ðŸ’Ļ

Gas

Cool →

(Condensation)

💧

Liquid

Cool →

(Freezing)

🧊

Solid

Water Example: Ice (solid) → Water (liquid) → Steam (gas)

4. Weather Patterns

Types of Weather

☀ïļ

Sunny

Maaraw - Hot, bright sky

☁ïļ

Cloudy

Maulap - Covered sky

🌧ïļ

Rainy

Maulan - Water falls

🌊ïļ

Stormy

Mabagyo - Strong wind, rain

The Water Cycle

  1. 1. Evaporation ☀ïļ - Sun heats water, it becomes gas (vapor)
  2. 2. Condensation ☁ïļ - Vapor cools and forms clouds
  3. 3. Precipitation 🌧ïļ - Water falls as rain or snow
  4. 4. Collection 💧 - Water gathers in rivers, lakes, oceans

Philippine Climate: We have two main seasons - Tag-init (dry/summer) from March to May, and Tag-ulan (wet/rainy) from June to November.

5. Rocks and Soil

Types of Rocks

🌋 Igneous

Formed from cooled magma/lava

Examples: granite, basalt, obsidian

🏖ïļ Sedimentary

Formed from layers of sediment

Examples: limestone, sandstone, shale

💎 Metamorphic

Changed by heat and pressure

Examples: marble, slate, quartzite

Parts of Soil

PartDescription
HumusDead plants and animals (nutrients)
SandLarge particles, rough, drains water fast
SiltMedium particles, smooth
ClayTiny particles, sticky when wet

6. Caring for Our Environment

The 3 Rs

â™ŧïļ

Reduce

Use less stuff

Turn off lights, use less water

🔄

Reuse

Use things again

Use old containers, bring bags

🗑ïļ

Recycle

Make into new things

Paper, plastic, glass, metal

Ways to Help the Environment

  • Plant trees and take care of plants ðŸŒģ
  • Don't litter - throw trash in the proper bin 🗑ïļ
  • Save water - turn off the faucet 💧
  • Save electricity - turn off lights ðŸ’Ą
  • Take care of animals 🐕
  • Walk or bike instead of using cars ðŸšķ

Remember: We only have ONE Earth! Let's take care of it together. Small actions make a big difference!

What We Learned!
