1. Subject-Verb Agreement โœ๏ธ

Basic pero maraming nagkakamali! Ito ang foundation ng maayos na sentence.

Golden Rules:

Rule 1: Singular subject = Singular verb

โœ… The suspect WAS arrested.

โŒ The suspect WERE arrested.

Rule 2: Plural subject = Plural verb

โœ… The officers WERE dispatched.

โŒ The officers WAS dispatched.

Rule 3: "Either/or, Neither/nor" - Verb agrees with nearest subject

โœ… Either the captain or the officers ARE responsible.

โœ… Either the officers or the captain IS responsible.

Rule 4: Collective nouns - Usually singular

โœ… The team IS ready for deployment.

Exception: When members act individually โ†’ plural

  • โ€ข Each, Every, Everyone โ†’ Always singular
  • โ€ข None โ†’ Can be singular or plural (context)
  • โ€ข A number of โ†’ Plural | The number of โ†’ Singular
