Tip: Count your fingers! Each hand has 5 fingers. Two hands = 10 fingers!

Number Words

  • 1 = one
  • 2 = two
  • 3 = three
  • 4 = four
  • 5 = five
  • 6 = six
  • 7 = seven
  • 8 = eight
  • 9 = nine
  • 10 = ten

2. Number Recognition

Place Value

A two-digit number has TENS and ONES.

25
TensOnes

25 = 2 tens + 5 ones = 20 + 5

Comparing Numbers

5 > 3

5 is greater than 3

2 < 7

2 is less than 7

4 = 4

4 is equal to 4

Remember: The "mouth" of > and < always eats the bigger number!

3. Basic Addition (+)

What is Addition?

Addition means putting together or combining numbers. The answer is called the SUM.

🍎🍎+🍎🍎🍎=🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎

2 + 3 = 5 apples

Addition Facts (1 to 10)

1 + 1 = 2

2 + 2 = 4

3 + 3 = 6

4 + 4 = 8

5 + 5 = 10

2 + 3 = 5

4 + 5 = 9

3 + 7 = 10

Tip: Use your fingers to count! Start with the first number, then count up with your fingers for the second number.

4. Basic Subtraction (−)

What is Subtraction?

Subtraction means taking away or removing from a number. The answer is called the DIFFERENCE.

🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎=🍎🍎🍎

5 − 2 = 3 apples left

Subtraction Facts (1 to 10)

5 − 2 = 3

7 − 4 = 3

10 − 5 = 5

8 − 3 = 5

6 − 2 = 4

9 − 6 = 3

10 − 7 = 3

4 − 4 = 0

Remember: When we subtract a number from itself, the answer is always 0!
Example: 5 − 5 = 0

5. Shapes

Basic 2D Shapes

Circle

0 corners, 0 sides

Square

4 corners, 4 equal sides

Rectangle

4 corners, 4 sides

Triangle

3 corners, 3 sides

CircleBall, Clock, Coin, Pizza
SquareTile, Window, Sandwich
RectangleDoor, Book, Phone, TV
TriangleRoof, Pizza slice, Yield sign

6. Patterns

What is a Pattern?

A pattern is something that repeats in a special order.

Color Patterns
